Washoe return to “Da ow aga.”

It is summertime around Lake Tahoe, and as they have for thousands of years, the Washoe American Indians have returned to the sacred land they call “Da ow aga.”

Their ancestors came from lower elevations of the Sierra Nevada's mountains and Great Basin valleys to hunt deer, bighorn sheep and gather medicinal herbs. Before the big snows arrived, they would harvest acorns and pine nuts.
