Humor Helps a Healthy Lifestyle

Gulping for air like a goldfish out of its bowl, I looked at the bike’s odometer certain I had covered miles.

Unbelievably, it registered one-half mile.

My calves feel like lead and my thighs had rubbed together so fast, I was certain fire would erupt.

Sighing, I began pedaling again – slowly.

A cheery “on your left” warned of an approaching cyclist.

"Ouch" and Biking - Not a Good Combo

Now that spring has sprung, people around the Lake Tahoe Basin are hopping on bicycles.

Unfortunately, a few miles or even a few yards into the ride and many experience a twinge, a pang or even downright pain.

Some might discount the discomfort as being inevitable after months of winter inactivity. However, according to Judd Van Sickle Jr. that attitude is wrong and dangerous.


“It should not hurt to ride a bike,” he said.
